Black enameled over cast iron manual typewriter (a) by Underwood Standard Model No. 6 Serial No. 4711797-11 with 11 inch black rubber carriage; black 1.4 cm dot shaped letter tabs and white letters edged in silver metal; with four tabs green and white text and silver edged; missing third rubber holder on paper holder bar; manufacturers name in gold and red paper seal on front and metal label on back; in working condition and includes full set of keys and tabs; includes reel of black ribbon and take up spool (d-e) inserted into holders; two new black ribbon reels (b-c).

John T. Underwood founded the Underwood Typewriter Company in 1895 with headquarters in New York City, New York. Underwood produced what is considered the first widely successful, modern manual typewriter. This typewriter model No. 6 was last issued in 1937. Dr Ralph and Mrs Olga Crawford donated their extensive Canadian dental collection to the DCF to create the museum in 1997; further donations were received while Dr Crawford was Curator Emeritus at the Dental Canada Museum until its closure in 2008.
