The bottle would have been used for a Quinine and Iron tonic. This particular tonic was 'ideal' to be taken during convalescence and particularly after influenza.
E. Rimmel was also a very successful perfume company that started in 1834. There are bottles similar to the style of this one that at one point were used for perfume.
