Provenance
This pamphlet originally belonged to the Health League of Canada, which was founded on the purpose of providing health education and promoting disease prevention. After the Health League of Canada discontinued, its records were moved to the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa and later discovered by Arthur Gryfe, a former MD and appointed archivist of the Health League of Canada, even though the group barely existed at the time of his appointment.
On the front: "Tell me // Doctor ... // What are the // Venereal // Diseases // Reprinted with kind permission and certain modifications // from pamphlets of the British Ministry of Health and the // Venereal Disease Education Institute, Raleigh, N.C." There is also an image of a question mark; on the inside: "WHAT ARE THE // VENEREAL DISEASES?"; "IGNORANCE IS DANGEROUS"; "WHAT ARE THEY?"; "SYPHILIS"; "GONORRHOEA"; "UNFOUNDED FEARS"; "HOW CAN WE AVOID VENEREAL // DISEASES?"; "HOW CAN VENEREAL DISEASE BE // CURED?"; On the back: "REMEMBER THESE RULES:"; "HEALTH LEAGUE OF CANADA // (Social Hygiene Division) // 111 AVENUE ROAD – TORONTO 5, ONT."
