Monochrome sepia brown photograph of the graduating class of 1922 from the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing; thirty nurses are outside on the front entrance steps of the original circa 1904 nursing residence with their backs to the doors, and looking forward at the camera; twenty-five of the nurses are sitting on the steps, divided into the first three rows; the fourth and farthest row back consists of five nurses standing; each nurse is holding their rolled diplomas with a large bouquet of red roses and ferns and dressed in their white cotton nursing uniform, which includes white cap, stocking and shoes; their caps have a black ribbon along upper edge.

Originally owned by Abbie Judson, a graduate from the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing in 1922. She is also the aunt of the donor, Judy Horsey.
Image is evenly faded throughout to a fair extent; minor tear on the upper right side, a small tear on the centre bottom side, and two small tears on the top left side; surface has a pattern of missing ink possibly from being behind glass for many years and stuck to the glass.

Research Facts
The first official graduating class of the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing was in 1888; the school was created in order to educate nurses as the demand for them increased, as well as providing a labour force to the hospital. When the first nurses graduated, they were given a certificate of completion, twenty five dollars, and a nursing medal. Over the years, nurses were sometimes given pins and/or rings or other memorabilia to commemorate their graduation from the school.
