Bilvac is a cholagogue, which is used to stimulate gallbladder to release or increase flow of bile; it was commonly used before a cholecystography procedure, which is an x-ray examination of the gallbladder using a contrast agent to aid in imaging; the gall bladder is a small organ that stores and release bile produced by the liver to aid digestion.
Oral cholecystography is a radiological procedure used to visualize the gallbladder and biliary channels, developed in 1924 by American surgeons Evarts Ambrose Graham and Warren Henry Cole.
