Research Facts
A respirator would have been used in an intensive care unit to assist a patient's breathing; some effort would be made by the patient to breathe on their own; this was one of the first volume ventilators; the machine was a volume cycled constant pressure generator and was used as an intensive care unit machine; there is an ultrasonic nebulizer between the ventilating bellows which humidified the air delivered to the patient; this machine controlled the patient's breathing, thus was good for neurological cases where breathing patterns are not normal; this machine was a timed breath machine that would give the patient a breath "whether they wanted it or not" and did not allow for spontaneous breathing; the second bellow was for deep breath; the machine packed a volume controlled breath into the patient.
