Albrecht von Haller (also known as Albertus de Haller; 16 October 1708 – 12 December 1777) was a Swiss anatomist, physiologist, naturalist, encyclopedist, bibliographer and poet. A pupil of Herman Boerhaave, he is often referred to as "the father of modern physiology."
Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777) was a Swiss physician, physiologist and poet who studied under anatomist Albinus and physiologist Hermann Boerhaave; wrote "De partibus corporis humani sensibilitus et irritabilibus", defining sensitivity and irritability; sensibility -- those parts whose stimulation or injury causes discomfort; irritability -- those parts which contract under mechanical or chemical stimulation; also wrote "Elemental physiologiae" which became the first standard textbook.
