(a) The urinometer is a clear glass cylindrical tube with a mercury-filled sealed bulb at one end; a hollow teardrop-shaped air chamber flares out from the mercury bulb and then tapers to a long, hollow indicator tube that contains a printed paper scale which is graduated from 0 to 60 in increments of 10; the tube case (b) is a long, hollow cylindrical wooden tube with one closed end and one slightly tapered open end; the lid (c) is a shorter, hollow cylindrical wooden tube with one open and one closed end; the lid has a constant diameter which fits over the tapered end of the tube
