(a) The urinometer is a clear glass cylindrical tube with a mercury-filled sealed bulb at one end; a hollow teardrop-shaped air chamber flares out from the mercury bulb and then tapers to a long, flattened hollow indicator tube that has embossed printing for gauging measurements; the tube case (b) is a long, hollow cylindrical tube of cellophane-covered cardboard with one closed end and one slightly tapered open end; the lid (c) is a shorter, hollow cylindrical tube of cellophane-covered cardboard with one open end; the lid has a constant diameter which fits over the tapered opening of the main tube
