Two-piece instrument which, when assembled, has the general appearance of a tonsil snare; (a) calibrator is a metal syringe-shaped object; at the top are two circular finger rings on opposite sides of a cylindrical cuff; a threaded hole is centred on the front of the cuff between the finger rings (the screw is missing); the body is a tube with most of the front cut away showing a cross-section of the instrument; a 1.5 cm length of the tube is intact at each end; the left, cut-away side is stamped with straight lines in half-inch increments with the numbers 0, 1 and 2 spaced one inch from each other; the right is stamped with quarter-inch increments but no numbers; the bottom of the tube has a bevelled edge on which sits a smaller bevelled/dome tip with a hole in the centre; (b) stilette has an oval thumb ring with flattened base attached to a solid cylinder that measures slightly more than half the length of the entire piece; a narrower cylinder extends from the larger one; about 1/3 of the way down, this narrower cylinder begins to flatten on one edge, becoming increasingly flat until, if looked at in cross section, the cylinder becomes semicircular; ends with a circle of metal at its tip attached at a 90° angle to the rod.
