Provenance
Models made by Marjorie Winslow; they were commissioned as teaching aids by Dr. Robertson of the Queen’s University Faculty of Medicine, who also helped with the anatomical details.
Length: 36.7 cm. x Width: 16.4 cm. x Depth: 10.0 cm.
Condition Remarks
There were structural issues in the form of cracks. The placement of cracks is as follows: across the neck, across the PR arm, across the PR knee, arc-shaped crack across PR shin, around the PR ankle, across PR toes, around the PL leg, across the PL ankle, across top of PL foot, across the back of the neck, under the PL armpit.
Surface issues included dust and dirt and in some areas lint or dust adhering to wax. Fills from previous restoration (PR ankle, PL shin, PL lower arm, PL side of the neck) are lumpy and their painted colour stands out against the translucency of the wax,. The fills were lighter or darker than the wax. There was extensive damage down the PL side of the body. This damage consisted of: a brownish–black streak, dark stain, bloom of wax, dryness/crizzling of the wax, pockmarked surfaces in the wax. There was a dark stain starting at the PL shoulder and running down the PL side of the torso.
The model was contaminated with mould and large particulate matter along the PL side; a pink discolouration or bloom was also apparent on this side; structurally the model exhibited numerous cracks, fractures and losses; the PR foot was separated from the body; the PL leg on the verso had a loss in the knee area; there was also a loss on the PL side of the neck; the PL arm was missing entirely below the elbow; where the armature was exposed corrosion of the metal was evident
