This is a solid, scissor-like instrument consisting of two arms with closed, round finger grips on one end and smooth, flat gripping surfaces on the other; the arms extend in a straight path to meet at approximately the midpoint; they are rounded on the outside surface and flat on the inner surface; they are joined at the meeting point by a small, slotted screw; from the meeting point towards the gripping surface the flat side of the arms meet; the arms end in a slightly rounded point and the arms taper to form flat gripping pincers.

Originally owned by Dr. Publow, who practised in Prince Edward County between 1850 and 1900. Given to Dr. M. Williams, head of Otolaryngology at Queen's University.
"HARTZ CO" stamped into the rounded edge of one metal arm between the finger grips and connection point; the number "3" is stamped into each arm on the inner flat surface near the slotted screw.
