Ophthalmological lens kit, which consists of 189 pieces in a leather case; the case (a) consists of a rectangular-shaped box with a lid hinged onto the bottom with two hinges at the back and three clasps--with a central one that locks--at the front; the inside top and bottom of the case are felt-lined and have slots to hold the lenses and a small box at the bottom right side to house other pieces; slots for the lenses are labelled for size and type of lens; there is also a small ivory label attached to the inside bottom of the box; the case has two inner covers for the top (b) and bottom (c); these covers are flat and rectangular in shape, with leather on the top and felt on the bottom; the covers also have a clasp near each corner that allows them to fit snugly over the top and bottom of the case and protect the contents within; the sectioned box in the bottom right of the case houses three items (d-f); these include: a pair of eyeglass frames (d), a ruler (e) and a universal pupilometer card (f); the eyeglass frames (d) consist of metal formed into the shape of round-framed eyeglasses; a round bar above the lenses can be adjusted to control the spacing between the lenses; the bottom of the lenses both have a slotted piece that holds up to three lenses on the frame; there is a nose bridge piece between the two lenses that is also adjustable; the sidepieces of the frames, for the ears, can also be lengthened or shortened; the kit contains an ivory ruler (e) that is flat on the bottom and slightly rounded on the top with straight right and left edges; the top of the ruler is marked in increments of millimetres and inches; the universal pupilometer (f) is printed on a heavy paper card and lists measurements in millimetres and inches, as well as manufacturing information; the kit contains 179 lenses for the eyeglass frame; the lenses all consist of a round metal frame formed into a closed circle with a flat, rounded holding piece at one side; the frame holds a round, clear glass lens with flat or slightly curved upper and lower edges; thicknesses vary; lenses 997.001.295f-c8 fit this description; the kit also contains five other lenses (997.001.295d8-h8); all of these lenses also consist of a round metal frame formed into a closed circle with a flat, rounded holding piece; the frames hold a round, flat glass lens that looks as follows: (d8) half-clear, half-frosted; (e8) frosted; (f8) dark glass (grey-blue), clear; (g8) clear, dark glass (grey-blue); (h8) clear, dark glass (red);the kit also contains four specialized lenses (i8)-(l8); these lenses all consist of a round metal frame formed into a closed circle with a flat, rounded holding piece; the frames hold a flat, round bakelite piece with a section cut out from the centre, as follows: (i8) has a round circle cut out of the centre with bifocal glass set in; (j8) has a very small round hole through the bakelite in the centre; (k8) has a thin rectangular slot cut out of the centre of the bakelite, with a small cylindrical piece of glass set into the opening; (l8) has a very thin rectangular slot cut out of the bakelite in the centre; there is an incomplete lens in the kit as well (m8); this lens has no metal frame; the lens is flat and round and made of clear dark grey-blue glass.

Condition Remarks
(a) The case is very worn with many missing pieces from the leather and some minor corrosion visible on the metal; the contents of the kit are in good condition, with only minor wear and no corrosion visible on the metal parts; kit appears to be complete; #2: case is weathered; #3: the case is in very bad condition; the leather is peeling off and has holes in it; #4: same comment as #3.
