(a) Black scope is a hollow cylinder open at both ends; one end flares into a lip and then ends in a cylinder; the other end swells into a truncated knob; (obturator) (b) consists of a long, thin metal tube with a flat, round disk (the handle), with a corrugated edge on one end, and a bullet-shaped black plug on the other; halfway down the tube is another slightly smaller disc, flat on top and rounded at the bottom; this disc rests on the lip of (a) when assembled, with the tip of the bullet protruding from the other end of (a).
