Mouth gag, which is short-handled, with each handle bent at the distal end at an almost 90° angle, continuing into a blade that roughly looks like a "3" on the right side and a backwards"3" on the left; the blades are joined at the proximal end by an extension of the left blade into a slot on the right blade, and held together by a screw; the distal ends of the blades are held together in the same manner only in opposition, i.e., a protrusion of the right blade fits into a slot at the end of the left blade and held together with a screw; both screws permit the opening and closing of the blades; near the distal end of the left handle is an arc which goes through a slot in the right handle; the proximal edge has individual teeth resembling a gear; on the right handle outside surface is a lever that has individual teeth opposite to the teeth on the arc, which permit locking the mouth gag in various positions; the proximal end of the lever is serrated to prevent the user's finger from slipping; this lever is pinned to the handle; on the inside of the right handle is a flat piece following the shape of the handle, to prevent the lever head slipping through the slot where the instrument is held in place; this is screwed at the proximal end and a pin beside it to the inside of the right handle.
