Monocular microscope, which consists of several parts housed in a wooden case; the microscope (a) has a metal horseshoe base; the back of the base has an upright section with a cone-shaped dial at the top; above the base, there is a flat, square stage; the centre of the stage has a small round hole through it with a glass lens set into it; above the stage and attached to the brass cylindrical back section, is a cylindrical brass body tube; this tube lines up with the glass lens in the stage; below the lens, under the stage, there is a round lens that has a round adjustment knob sticking out at the left side; the bottom of the body tube has a round revolving objective holder with three objectives (b-d): "A" long (b), "A" short (c) and "D" (d); the objectives are all made of cylindrical brass with tapered tips that have glass lenses set into their centres, and threaded ends that allow them to be attached to the objective holder; the top of the body tube is round and open; an eyepiece (e) fits into this hole; the eyepiece is made of cylindrical metal with a covered top that has a small glass lens in the centre and a bottom with a glass lens set into it; behind the body tube is a pair of round focusing adjustment knobs; the microscope is stored in a wooden case (f) that is rectangular in shape; the box is closed with a front door attached at the right side with a metal hinge and with a lock at the central left side (the key is missing); the top of the box has an attached semicircular handle made from solid cylindrical metal, and an engraved small brass plate in the centre; the inside of the box has attached wooden pieces at the right and left sides, which firmly hold the microscope in place; at the upper left and right sides of the case there are removable wooden objective case holders (g,h); these are both long, rectangular wooden pieces with closed front, back, bottom, left and right sides, and with five rounded holes through the top; the front hole in the objective case holder on the left side (g) goes all the way through the wood; all of the other holes in the wood have closed bottoms; the inside door of the case also has attached wooden pieces designed to firmly hold the microscope in place; the right objective case holder (h) holds two empty objective case bottoms with screw on/off lids (i-l); the objective case bottoms (i,k) are both made of hollow cylindrical brass with flat, closed bottoms and round, open tops with threading on their upper outer edges; the case lids (j,l) are both short cylindrical hollow pieces with flat, closed, round tops and open, round bottoms that have threading on their lower inner edges; the tops fit over and onto the bottoms in pairs: i,j and k,l.
