Alexander's mastoid gouge, which consists of an instrument made from a single solid piece of metal; the main handle/shaft of the gouge is squared, with four flat sides and rounded corners; the gouge tapers slightly and rounds out to end with a semicircular, thin, sharp edge; the top has a concave groove in the metal; the other end of the gouge flares out to form a thumbtack-like rounded end.

One side of the handle/shaft has the Jetter & Scheerer logo of a snake twisted around a caduceus rod with a crown above, as well as, "KNY-SCHEERER // GERMANY // 2 // 8 // m/m" stamped into the metal.
