A pair of eyeglasses made with tortoiseshell rims, hand-forged jointed brass temples, and bi-convex lenses; came in a lacquered case with a decorative knot tied to the end of the case and Japanese characters inscribed on the case.

Two visiting Japanese gentlemen identified the glasses as Japanese on the basis of the ancient Japanese writing on the case. There would originally have been a netsuke attached to the cord to allow the case to be suspended from the kimono sash (9/10/81).
