A long, cylindrical wooden pipe with an ivory-like end with a small circular hole in the middle portion of the surface that covers the end of the cylinder; at the other end the hole has been sealed with a reddish, hard substance; toward this end a thin metal wire has been tightly wound around the pipe to help hold it together; also near to this end is a metal portion that fits over a portion of the pipe with a hole in it; this has been lashed around the pipe with a twine-like material; the metal shoulder has on it a number of designs that repeat themselves over the metal surface; of special note is a Chinese character on the top of the metal shoulder (see accession sheet for sketch).
