Brass stand (a) has cutwork opening near rim; black wooden handle can be unscrewed; large opening cut out to insert bunsen burner along one side; black wooden handle (b) can be unscrewed; cotton wick still attached; bottom of bowl (d) is discoloured & blackened from flame; used for medicine; removable spout (e) has small funnel at end of curved support. Condition Remarks
a: brass shows discolouration overall; tarnish; active corrosion along base at large cut away opening for bunsen burner (8.5 cm.) and continues underneath; inside of stand shows white drip marks turned to light corrosion where bunsen burner was taped inside since 1984; bottom shows water stains and discolouration; b: (orientation: handle @ 12:00) at "10:00" is a large solid drip of what appears to be tan paint; will not come off; continues underneath on bottom; handle paint is flaking off around edges; d: blackened bottom bowl and heat has discoloured metal; rim to insert medicine has brown drip marks; surface pitting; some grime around rim; e: tape residue at beginning of curving support where identification tag was attached since 1984; surface pitting; inside of funnel shows staining and grime; outside rim has a crease the full length of funnel (3.0 cm.) Recommendations: clean brass; stop corrosion; place near dry area or possibly bag of silica gel near shelf; #2: condition largely unchanged; the patch of corrosion on the bottom rim of the stand (a) has not grown in size (8.5 cm x 1.0 cm); the patch that continues on the underside of the stand was 6.7 cm x 3.7 cm, approximately; the inhaler was dusty; there were loose particles of residue inside part (d); #3: metal is tarnished, wooden handles are dirty.
