A morocco velvet-lined case (a) has two pouches and contains a variety of medical instruments: a nickel-plated steel director and tonguette (b); tenotome and director with tortoise-shell handle (c); gum lancet and tenaculum (d); a probe (e); bistoury and tenotome (f); straight operating scissors (g); scalpel and probe-pointed bistoury (h); morocco detached holder with four pockets for urethral catheter and caustic holder (i); parts of Parker combined urethral catheter (j-m); part of Parker catheter caustic holder (n) that fits into (m); paper envelope for surgeon's needles containing 6 stainless steel sutures (o); a paper with thread wrapped around it (silk for suturing?) (p); and five stainless steel needles on chamois (q).

Acquired from the Academy of Medicine; source: Mary B. Millman, daughter of Dr. Thomas Millman of Oxford Co.; Dr. Millman purchased the case and instruments while in London and Edinburgh in 1875-76.
Inside the upper flap of the case (a) is an oval, gold-printed seal that has inside it: "Manuf. of Surgical Instr. // G. TIEMANN & CO. // 67 Chatham St., New York"; (b) has imprinted on it: "Tiemann & Co."; (d) has imprinted, "Tiemann"; (f) has imprinted, "Tiemann"; (g) has imprinted: "Millikin"; (h) has imprinted, "Tiemann"; (o) has printed on it, "J. Stevens & Son, SURGEONS' NEEDLES, 78, Long Lane, LONDON, E.C.".
