Sept 2022 - some damage to paint on mount either side of wax tongue, possibly from previous tape adhesion; paper label browning and metal tacks slightly rusted; wax model of tongue slightly loose; wax slightly flaking and bubbled in several places but overall good.
Sept 2022 - use caution when handling, keep mount flat as wax model of tongue is loose - not recommended for handling or transport outside the museum
Louis Niclet (1867–1924) was made official modeller at the Hôpital St.-Louis following the death of Jules Barretta in 1923. Niclet made 480 moulages in his career, all with great attention to detail.
A gumma is a soft, tumor-like growth of the tissues (granuloma) that occurs in people with syphilis. A gumma is caused by the bacteria that cause syphilis. It appears during late-stage tertiary syphilis. It most often contains a mass of dead and swollen fiber-like tissue.
