"Methedrine" became a term in the 1930s (a cross between methyl and Benzedrine).
It is a solution for hypodermic injection, used as a central nervous system stimulant, to treat severe obesity, narcolepsy, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This is meth, still sold legally as Desoxyn for the conditions listed above. It triggers release of epinephrine and norepinephrine from nerve terminals in the brain and inhibits their uptake in the next nerve, trapping them in the synapse. High synaptic concentration of these neurotransmitters causes euphoria, alertness and an increase in motor activity
