Awarded to Dr. William Boyd (June 21, 1885–March 10, 1979), who was a Scottish-Canadian pathologist, academic, and author known for his medical textbooks; in 1968, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada, Canada's highest civilian honour, "for his services as a pathologist and as a founding member of the National Cancer Institute."
