Oak and pine chest stained a golden colour, two doors hinged on sides each with 12 compartments for 12 large bottles and two drawers; drawer pulls are carved into the thickness of the drawer front; case is nailed together, with a brass flush mounted carrying handle without a keyhole escutcheon; contents are: large bottles, (a) cork-stoppered glass bottle with a label and about 25 gelatin-coated ovoid pills; (b-f) moulded greenish glass bottles embossed on the flat side, empty; small bottles in door compartments: greenish glass, moulded, embossed on flat side, most of them empty, most with paper labels (f-z); moulded green cylindrical glass bottle (aa); top drawer (qq) contains: a horn-handled penknife with one pointed and one blunt-ended blade (bb); a key for the cabinet (cc); a bent wire hook, use unknown (dd); a folding corkscrew (ee); a brass objective (ff); glass pans for a handheld balance (gg,hh) and some unnumbered paper items: a memo book, round, gummed, printed labels, square envelopes, a photograph of someone cured of lupus; bottom drawer (pp) contains: a monaural stethoscope, wood (ii); glass test tubes (jj,kk); a roll of prepared linen dressing (ll); a corked glass vial (mm); a corked bottle 1/3 full of strychnine crystals (nn); a maroon morocco-covered notebook (oo) with flap-over closure; space for pencil is empty; pocket contains paper dated 1907-1909 and refers to loan on house; notebook contains 23 pages of accounts for visits / medications, with dates from 1899-1910; four pages of Indian words and phrases with their English equivalents; unnumbered paper items: two lined papers for writing bottle labels, plus two labels cut from the large piece; three coloured envelopes; a pencil-written list of drugs, 25 names, the contents of the chest (?); an envelope with POISON printed on it.
