The devel- // opment work and clinical trials during the past six years have been // aimed at producing a simple technique which can be applied by // Medical or Nursing staff without special training. // It must be emphasized that Somlec Therapy has no connec- // tion with E.C.T. It is completely non-convulsive and does not // produce unconsciousness. // SomLec induces sleep in the patient by means of small // modulated electrical impulses applied to the skull with a synchron- // ised audio stimulus. The sleep is indistinguishable from physiologic- // al sleep and the patient can be roused immediately in a normal // manner. // Selection of Patients // Technique // Instructions // 'SOMLEC 6' and SOMLEC 3' Apparatus // Treatment: ALWAYS CHECK THAT ALL CONTROLS ARE IN // 'OFF' POSITION BEFORE STARTING TREATMENT // Battery Models"

Research Facts
Machine bought in the late 1960s to investigate electrosleep therapy; Dr. Tyndel treated several patients at the same time with the audio component set almost at full; stopped using it ca. 1973 because of changes at the Toronto General Hospital and Addiction Research Foundation; "and my personal opinion -- it was a placebo."
