Research Facts
Owned and used by Nursing Sister Lieutenant Miriam Hartrick during World War II. Miriam (Hartrick) Kelly (1909-2001) graduated from Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing in 1931. She served in England, France and Italy during World War II.
The Canadian Red Cross Society was founded in 1896, and has provided humanitarian aid (supplies, food, medicine, etc.) in times of war and peace. During the Second World War, Canadians volunteered for the Red Cross, donating time and money to provide medical supplies, food, and comforts to those overseas. During this time the blood program was also founded, and civilians donated blood for transfusions in military hospitals overseas.
