Research Facts
The Belleville General Hospital was built from the fundraising efforts of the Women's Christian Association in Belleville, and opened on July 20th, 1886. It had at that time three nurses and eight beds. The Belleville General Hospital School of Nursing had their first class graduates in 1895, of only five nurses. The classes grew over the years to as many as forty in a class. Their last nursing class graduated in 1970. Nursing education was a three year program.
