Copper T-380 intrauterine device with applicator in a sealed, sterile package; the IUD consists of a piece of narrow, solid cylindrical polyethylene formed into a "T" shape with thin copper wire wrapped tightly around the length of the main shaft; the upper horizontal bar has a solid copper sleeve on both sides between the centre and the outer tips; the bottom of the main shaft has a small hole through it, which allows the attachment of a nylon string; the IUD is set into the tip of a plastic applicator; the applicator is long and cylindrical with a hollow outer tube and a solid cylindrical inner piece that fits into the tube; the end of the inner piece has an attached round ring; when the ring is pulled out, the IUD is pulled into the tube; attached at the centre of the tube is a round blue plastic guide piece as well as a closed funnel-shaped piece; the IUD and applicator come with printed information on a folded sheet of paper; all pieces are sealed inside a paper and plastic sterile package; this package has a plasticized paper bottom and a plastic top that can be peeled off to open.
