The hospital was founded in 1919. The Ontario Shores Centre still operates today as a mental health facility (2013). The hospital was the site on treed farmland by the shores of Lake Ontario provided psychiatric patients fresh air, sunshine, space to walk and an opportunity to heal. The hospital provides a range of specialized assessment and treatment services for those living with complex and serious mental illnesses.
