Collapsible monaural stethoscope, which consists of three Bakelite parts that screw together; the ear plate (a) consists of a round disc which is concave on its outer edge and tapers to a round convex piece with threading on the inside at the inner edge; the disc has a small round hole through the centre; a stem (b) fits into and together with the ear plate, and consists of a length of hollow cylindrical tubing that has threading on bother outer ends; one end fits together with the ear plate and the other fits into and together with (c) a stem and chest piece; this piece consists of a length of hollow cylindrical tubing with threading on the inner edges of one end and a flared conical chest piece on the other end; the outer edges of the chest piece are smooth and rounded

Condition Remarks
White mould covering almost all the artifact. The artifact was stored in 0010-F4-2 storage drawer. Artifact 997.038.005 in the same drawer also developed a small mould spot. The active mould was noticed on September 22, 2015 and the artifact placed in a bag. On October 9, 2015 it was transferred to a clean new bag
The Bakelite has no cracks and only a very small chip on the inner edge of the flared end of (c) the stem and chest piece; all parts screw on and off easily.
