(a) wax model (moulage) of the twelfth step in a vaginal hysterectomy on a prolapsed uterus pulled down through the introitus; the model is made of oil-painted beeswax with talc, built up with gauze; the model shows a woman's vagina with a prolapsed uterus being pulled down through the vaginal canal with a string through the cervix; this stage shows the fallopian tube and ovary being tied off on the other side; the uterus is now separated from the blood supply; the threads at the sides indicate stitches; the model is painted to depict true colour; (b) model of a vaginal speculum made of silver metal (aluminum?) used to demonstrate the use of the speculum to hold down the perineum during a vaginal hysterectomy; the speculum model was originally attached to the wax model, but has come off.

Models made by Marjorie Winslow; they were commissioned as teaching aids by Dr. Robertson of the Queen’s University Faculty of Medicine, who also helped with the anatomical details.
Both models were extremely dirty and dusty; (a) the wax model shows no cracks, chips or breaks in the wax; the surface dirt could not be removed completely with distilled water and cotton swabs; (b) the speculum model shows traces of wax and oil paint on it and is complete, but slightly bent out of shape
