Injected intravenously for patients who need fluid and calorie supply, or who are in need of increased blood sugar levels. Dextrose is glucose; solutions can come in many dilutions, including anywhere from 2.5% to 70% glucose based on the condition and age of the patient. Can also be taken orally as a liquid. Used as calorie supply for patients who are unable to get nutrition orally, to treat hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), and as fluid replenishment.
