The front of the cheque has the following printed on it: "KINGSTON BRANCH // KINGSTON ONT 1949 No. [illeg.] // THE BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA 2/16 [enclosed in a shield shape] // SAVINGS DEPARTMENT // PAY [illeg.] OR ORDER $ [illeg.] // THE SUM OF 3 million DOLLARS // EXCISE // STAMP HERE // [illeg.] // ACCOUNT NO. // [illeg.] // DEPOSITORS ARE REQUESTED TO AFFIX ACCOUNT NUMBER"; the writing is largely illegible, but the date is "April 29, 1949" and paid out to "Mr. Leo Jewitt," the sum of "3 million dollars" and signed by "Emperor of Japan"; the back of the cheque has hand written "117% // Hold lines // as well as // possible // 85 1/2 E" written in pencil
