Hooded acetabular insert component, which consists of a concave cup made of polyethylene; the cup has thick side edges and a flat, flared lip that is thick on one end and tapers down diagonally to a thin, flat lip; the top is open; there are two concentric grooves cut into the outer edges near the top; there are two very short lengths of wire set into the thick section of the lip, 1.2 cm apart; the outside edges of the lip have ten rounded, vertical lines cut into the polyethylene.
