Trade cards were an extremely popular form of advertising used by pharmaceutical companies beginning in the mid-1800s. This card is an advertisement for Hood’s Sarsaparilla, which claimed to cure a variety of illnesses including heart diseases, rheumatism (arthritis), and scrofula (tuberculosis of the lymph nodes). It also claimed to ‘purify the blood.’
