Research Facts
North Carolinian pharmacist Lunsford Richardson established the Vicks Chemical Company in 1911. Vicks VapoRub cold remedy would become their main seller. The Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919 boosted the product’s popularity due to the company’s smart marketing strategies. The Vick’s factory had to run 24/7 in order to keep up with the demand of this menthol-based ointment.
